Fishing

Fly fishing for large visible trout in super clear water in a superb wilderness setting simply doesn't come much better than this. Two of New Zealand's top wilderness fisheries can be accessed with Ngamatea providing a range of opportunities to match both your expectations and ability.

Pit your ability against the rainbows of the magnificent Rangitikei River for a challenging and truly memorable experience. Don't expect to catch lots of fish in a day fishing on this water but you won't forget those that you do catch with trout of between 3 and 5 kg not uncommon.

The Tararau River supports an amazing number of rainbow trout and the action can be fast and furious. Fishing is to sighted fish most of whom like nothing more than to slurp a large dry fly off the surface on a hot summer's day.

Add in the intimate experience of fishing some of Ngamatea's smaller streams and you will see why it would take you a month before you had to fish the same water twice! This enables you to enjoy a quality fishing experience to match the amazing surroundings.

The fishing season is from 1 October to 30 April.
